An oversized picture book with hoards of people milling around on each pageamidst this humanity readers must try to spot Waldo, identifiable by his clothing and hiking paraphernalia, in a game of concentration. It's difficult to find him in the middle of a crowd because he does not stick out head and shoulders above the teeming masses of pedestrians, beach-goers or vacationers. He's hiking his way across the world, and sees mermaids in canals, cows escaping from train cars, a helicopter chopping down flagpoles, a mummy's baby in a museum, a capsized desert island, a hat-eating giraffe and a glove attacking a man; he tells all in postcards, considerately short and friendly. Toward the end, Waldo has lost everything but his hat, and readers are expected to find those objects, too, in this amusing game of concentration amidst a sea of distractions. Waldo cuts through a maze of people and participates in numerous activities, but, unlike readers, seems to know where he is going. The pictures are astonishing in variety, detail and humor, and the pages are filled with so many people that readers will marvel at the artist's patience. All ages.

About the Author
Martin Handford began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes for numerous clients. The turning point came when
he was asked to create a book showcasing his singular talent, and the character Waldo was born. "I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Waldo has taken on a life of his own," says the man behind the Waldo books. "I’d like to inspire children - to open their minds, to explore more subjects, and to just be aware of what’s going on around them. I’d like them to see wonder in places that might not have occurred to them."

Wicked Waldo

I suppose I learned my lesson by not reading the one 1-star review before purchasing. Now I have to add my own poor review.
I ordered this book as Christmas gifts for my three-year-old as well as my four-year-old niece.
Though excited with how quickly the books arrived, my excitement quickly dissipated when the first page I opened to revealed a castle full of vampires drinking blood from straws, cups and other beings.
My husband cleverly advised we simply rip out those two pages. It would've been a perfect plan except two pages over was another scene of red, ferocious dwarves violently fighting. Several pages over from that were two other pages full of underground demon-looking dragons. Every page was filled with some sort of medieval violence. If we pulled out all the terrifying pages, we'd be left with only the front and back covers.
We will definitely be returning this item. A book that gives my child nightmares until the next Christmas isn't on my shopping list for this year.

Nice Wheres Waldo collection!

Big collection of where Waldo puzzles also include plenty of other items to search and find in each picture. The elusive little guy you loved as a kid has ventured into an affordable new format, ready to boggle a new generation. Now he's easier to carry around -- but just as hard as ever to find!

Awesome nostalgic book to share with my daughter :)

Love these books! I wanted to get one for my daughter after remembering how much I loved them as a kid. We have a blast trying to find Waldo, Welda, The Wizard, Odlaw, and Woof. Love that they make some characters easier than others and change the difficulty on every page. We've had this book for about 8 months and have looked through it countless times and still haven't found Woof in some of the pictures! So, this book will provide a lot of fun for a long time :)
