About the Author
Robin Landa holds the title of Distinguished Professor in the Robert Busch School of Design at Kean University of New Jersey. She is included among the teachers that the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching calls the "great teachers of our time." Most recently, Landa was a finalist in the WALL STREET JOURNAL's Creative Leaders competition. Professor Landa has won numerous awards for design, writing, and teaching, and is the author of 12 published books about graphic design, branding, advertising, and creativity, including GRAPHIC DESIGN SOLUTIONS (Wadsworth/Cengage), ADVERTISING BY DESIGN (John Wiley & Sons), and DESIGNING BRAND EXPERIENCES (Wadsworth/Cengage).

Rose Gonnella is currently a twenty-five year experienced professor in the Visual Communications Program of the Department of Design at Kean University in New Jersey. She teaches courses in design theory, studio skills and computer technology and has also developed the school's web design curriculum. She currently serves on the executive board of the Art Directors Club of New Jersey (ADCNJ) and as the Director of the Kean University/ADCNJ "Thinking Creatively" design conference. Ms. Gonnella is an educator, artist, designer and writer who has been awarded membership in two scholarly academic organizations, the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society in 1980 and the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society in 2001. She has received grants from the Mid-America Arts Alliance International Residency Project, the Mid-Atlantic Residency Grant Project and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship. She has also received several awards from Kean University, including the Presidential Award for Distinguished Research/Creative Work, the Computers in Curriculum Released Time Award, the Alumni Association Grant and the Faculty-Student Research Award. Ms. Gonnella is a practicing artist and designer who has exhibited both nationally and internationally for fifteen years. Her drawings are included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Art and Archaeology in Columbia, Missouri and other public and private collections. Her design work primarily revolves around Kean University's intellectual journal, the Kean Review, for which she is the Creative Director. Ms. Gonnella is also the author and co-author of several books and has written many magazine articles on creativity, art and architecture for several national publications. In addition, Ms. Gonella has written over two hundred and fifty articles on art, design and architecture for two newspapers in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Now in his own design studio, Steven Brower most recently was the creative director for Print magazine. He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards and his work is in the permanent collection of Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institute. He is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts, Marywood University, and Kean University.

Covers the basics

I took a digital imaging class that involved reading this cook, and writing critiques on works, using the elements and principles of design as outlined in the book. That book got dogeared! The class involved some concepts of Art that I hadn't been exposed to, due to not being educated in the fine Arts. This book filled in many gaps.

Fantastic Book

This book is great. I underline and highlight in it constantly. It has great examples that reinforce the text and is easy to read and understand. I am a beginning designer and this book really helped me out. I know that I will refer back to it often because design principles are timeless.

Kathryn is also member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Roxanne Wyss an experienced home economist has perfected her skills in test kitchens, working with food and appliance companies, such as Rival Manufacturing. Full of practical tips on simple, home-cooked meal planning, "Simmer and Sizzle" is the ideal solution for today's busy consumers. Using two of America's most common appliances: the Crock Pot and the contact grill (AKA George Forman Grill). incorporating shortcuts and tips, and cooking from a pantry of prepared foods--whether canned, frozen, jarred, dried, Moore and Wyss tell how to make over 200 appetizers, sauces, salads, soups, sides, and main courses, vegetables, and deserts. This book contains a wide variety of unusual recipes for using your Crock Pot and the contact grill - without requiring expensive one-time use spices and seasonings.

It has a great recipe for Beef and Onion Fajitas (always a favorite with kids!) as well as really good recipes for Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad and a fancy Grilled Tenderloin with Pepper Cream Sauce.

This book makes a great gift for the new bride, college grad in their first apartment, or even the empty-nested seniors who lack motivation to cook.

The only minor flaw I found in this book was that occasionally a recipe is continued on the back of a page - requiring clean hands to turn the page!

If you only use that Crock Pot sitting around the house to heat up soup this is the place to find out all lot more you can do. Grilling with "George" just got more creative with the recipes in this book. The results are delicious and the book is a recommended read!

A Winner Even with Hard to Please Kids!

This cookbook has quickly become a family favorite! We have yet to select and make a recipe that we didn't love - including my two boys, ages 13 and 9. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious. I have two very picky eaters, and several of the recipes are so good, they will warm the leftovers for breakfast! A few of our favorites are Artichoke and Spinach Cheese Spread, Rustic Italian Beef Ragu, Chicken Con Queso, and Biscuit-Topped Chicken Potpie.

My lifesaver!

I attended a cooking course given by the authors. They were so warm and had such passion for what they did I went out and bought the book. I use it at least once a week and find that all the dishes come out so well. My husband thinks I am such a great cook too - that's just the added bonus!

Hello, all

Yes, I am the author of Just How Things Be, and this is my first published work. I'm not quite sure why I decided to follow through with this one, as opposed to other projects I'd taken on, but I will say this:

I really enjoyed writing this novel. I tried to make it as honest a portrayal as I could of where I grew up, which is in one of the poorest housing developments in America: Ida B. Wells on the Southside of Chicago.

Some of the things that I wrote about were variations on various experiences I'd been a part of or had heard about from friends or associates. It's wild, because I can see reading this story and thinking "Man, how could something like this go down?" But being on the other side of the experience (as the writer), I learned that anything is possible. As sad as that statement could be, it is also a positive thing.

As for the cost of the book, I definitely do not suggest paying the [full] listed price of $14.95 (Though you won't be out for my blood, I'm not quite there yet :), but I would say that $12.15 is a fair price. I can pretty much guarantee that you (the Reader) will get SOMETHING out of this tale.

Great review material, but tests could be better...

The best way to do well on the SAT is to, well, practice. But if your fundamentals are lacking, then its behooves you to learn the basics. This book's review material is great! It goes over all the math you need to do well on the SAT (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems, etc.) and gives you a fair amount of practice. The writing section is excellent -- it gives you all the grammar rules AND a list of idiomatic prepositions. The reading section is as good as it can be (it's very difficult to "teach" reading) and the vocabulary list is great.

However, the practice tests in here are nothing like the real thing. The math is far too easy and less focused on "trickery" than it is on straight mathematics. The writing questions were dead on for the most part, but the reading questions were...meh. The sentence completions tested too difficult vocabulary and the reading comprehension was too basic.

I'd give this a 4/5 because of the practice tests. Now if you pair it with the college board's book with 8 tests (the "blue book"), then you should be all set. But as a standalone prep book, it needs better tests.

I scored a 2340 on the actual exam and use these books to tutor my students (friends).

This is the book I use with all my PSAT and SAT students. It provides a great overview of the test, teaches the Kaplan test-taking strategies, and supplies the student with several full-length tests so he/she can practice his/her new skills.

I grew up in the South, one of nine siblings. We were of a very meager lifestyle but content in a Christian home. Dad was an electrician by trade and followed new construction, so mother handled the responsibility very well, a very strong woman with strict religious guidance. I married very young and life was not of good choices on my part which made it very difficult for me as I matured into womanhood. Spiritually speaking I was in the desert for many years trying to do it myself with much failure. God changed my life and I began to write of my of my past and then more books followed and are now in print. God has done wonderful things in my life and I give Him all the praise and glory. I now have a very healthy life with a husband that came by the leading of the Holy Spirit and God makes all things beautiful in His time.

I really enjoyed this book. The 7th son of a 7th son. He had special abilities and his intuition helped him Working for the spook as an apprentice. The apprentice made mistakes and learned from them and tried to remember what the spook taught him. He had to learn how to deal with the paranormal and his family drama. His mother was there for him as well. I plan on reading some more in the series

Thomas Ward is the seventh son, which means that there's precious little for him to have as he grows up. The farm always goes to the oldest son to keep it intact, and the father tries to find apprenticeships for the other children. By the time Tom's dad arranges an apprenticeship for him, all that's left is the Spook's apprentice. Old Gregory has been chasing ghosts and witches from the countryside for years. It's not exactly the kind of work Tom is interested in. He's even less interested when he finds out the last apprentice was killed, his fingers bitten off and his blood sucked out by a witch. The same witch that's now imprisoned in a deep pit in the back of the Spook's garden. Tom's got a lot to learn -- if he manages to stay alive.

REVENGE OF THE WITCH is Joseph Delaney's first novel, but he's already got a second out in this wonderful series.

I really enjoyed REVENGE OF THE WITCH. There's a genuine Old School feel of creeping horror that would make Stephen King proud. I read the book late at night -- the best time for me to unwind after a long day -- and ended up checking over my shoulder enough that I finally moved to a chair with its back to the wall.

Delaney builds a world that I believe in. I could traipse over the trails Tom and the Spook travel, see the villages they stop at, and walk through the Spook's house. The supernatural element can be gently horrifying as well as gut-wrenching. The everyday life of this pastoral world comes across as real as well. Although the book doesn't state a time period, we know that it's a couple hundred years ago or more. The perfect time and place (England) for this kind of excitement. I've already bought the second book and am looking forward to it as well.

This book has a harder-edged horror element than Harry Potter and comes across as scary, so I'd recommend it to young readers with nerves of steel. Or to adults who once more want to be a kid again when Things That Go Bump In The Night are real and nasty.

I can't get over how much I loved this book. I'm 35. I'm a teacher. I'm busy. I made time to read this book like you make time to eat. Two obsessive days. I carried the story with me when I was away from it.

There's an anti-establishment edge to it that I love. It's earthy and pagan and scary. Every single chapter takes your breath away. I guarantee you won't be able to put your bookmark in the middle of a chapter. Man! This is well-crafted stuff.

I read a lot. Of everything. This is the best thing I've read in a long time. Hands down.

I confess: I borrowed the copy I just finished reading from the library. I'm writing this review five minutes after I purchased it today (we need to encourage Delaney's publisher to keep paying him). It's a book I'm going to share with my kids and friends (as long as they promise to give it back...)
