Incredible book!!!

The information in this book offers great insight on how I can analyze an environment through a analytical method of the SPELIT Power Matrix. The SPELIT Power Matrix captures the essence of how to analyze the internal and external environment of an organization. The book is inspiring and encouraging by demonstrating situational examples of building a power matrix that highlights negative and positive effects of the decision in each SPELIT model. The presentation of literature, examples, models, and flow charts made the SPELIT Power Matrix easy to understand and apply its methods to real-world scenarios. I have personally used the SPELIT Power Matrix to give it a try, from the experience, building the SPELIT Power Matrix has provided me with positive results to increase the production of my department by 12% within the last month. From the pleasant experience, I will continue to apply the SPELIT Power Matrix to keep gaining higher results. I usually do not write a review on a book, in fact, this is the first time I wrote a review, and what compelled me to write the review was that I had to explain on how valuable this book has been in my life and on how others may find it useful to apply in their personal, professional, social, and academic environment. About the Author
For more than 45 years, Dr. Leonard John Faye has led the transformation from the static, faith-based phase of chiropractic development, to the dynamic, functional evidence based paradigm. The author of a text book, chapters in recent text books, hundreds of published articles; Dr. Faye has organized previous technique chaos into a biomechanical model. In addition to his published writing, Dr. Faye has also presented more than 300 seminars all over the world and delivered lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students since 1967. Leonard “John” Faye graduated from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1960, and is in active practice to this day. He practiced in England 15 for years, Canada for 11 and USA 22 years. He was the first chiropractor to be appointed by the Canadian Track and Field Team for the Olympics in 1984, held in Los Angeles. He is a founder member of the prestigious, multi-disciplinary American Back Society. He co-authored Motion Palpation and Chiropractic Technique – a text book used in the Chiropractic colleges today. He is married to Bernadette and they have 3 children; Dr. Heather, also a successful practicing chiropractor, Alan; a designer and Michael; a photographer.

Back Pain Is Not Normal

Many people simply choose to live with back pain. They think having back pain is normal - but it is not. This book really hit home in getting that message across. Being able to determine what type of pain I was having, where it was coming from and what type of doctor would be the best for me based on the self-diagnosis portion was so enlightening. I sought the care I needed and am now pain free. The exercise section was also helpful in teaching me what I need to do to stay pain free. Chances are everyone you know will need this book at one point in their lives - make sure you tell them about it! An easy and informative read.

Great book with very helpful information

This is a phenomenal book!!!. The best part of the book are chapters 2 & 3 where there are the yoga type exercises and illustrations of these exercises that you can do anywhere, anytime and these really help combat everyday back pain and they also help by stretching your body. On page 122, he talks about reducing stress and this is also a great chapter. Page 77 is about nutrition and that was really interesting especially the piece about orange juice.

This book was very helpful to me it described my problem exactly, and helped me get the help I needed for a pain I'd had for a long time. The book is very informative. I highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from back pain.

About the Author
Mechi Garza is a Native American Elder and Medicine Woman. She is also a writer, healer and master teacher with clients from all over the United States as well as Italy , Denmark , Mexico and Iceland . Twenty years ago she founded the energy healing technique, called Kolaimni, and has written two text books on the subject both of which have been translated into Portuguese and Swedish. She has also written eleven other books which have been published by Bantam, Simon Schuster, Dell, and Julian Messner. For eighteen years Mechi lived in Mexico where she wrote a serial drama, which was made into a feature film. When she and her family came back to the United States she taught Writing for Publication at the University of Charleston and did social work for the State of West Virginia. She also wrote Chicanos, a text book for Middle School students. In 2001, Cook Productions made a documentary of her life called Metis. It told the story of her life and how she coped with two bloods, both Native American and white. A year after it was produced Metis won the Ann Rice award in New Orleans which had been the setting for much of the movie. Grandmother Mechi as she is lovingly called, now lives in Tampa, Florida where she is active with the Wolf's Heart Lodge, a Native American drumming and meditation circle. Twice a year she goes back to West Virginia where she gives Workshops on Kolaimni Energy Healing, Metaphysical matters and Native American Traditions. She also lectures and teaches in Columbus , Cleveland , Cincinnati and Canton , Ohio , and each summer she goes to New York to teach at the International Women's Writing Guild. In Tampa she has a small self-publishing company, BLUE RAVEN BOOKS. So far she has published Cherokee Ways , The Red Elephant and Astral Travel for Earth Bound People. Mechi is available for lectures, workshops and teaching sessions, on Kolaimni energy healing, Native American Traditions, and writing. Mechi teaches Kolaimni at various locations across the country and to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Her students have included physicians, nurses, engineers, attorneys, authors, craftspeople, artists, teachers, homemakers, and many more.

Lovely book from a lovely woman

I recently had the opportunity to meet Grandmother Mechi and hear her lecture about this book. She is a lovely woman with a kind and gentle spirit. The book is very interesting and teaches us meditations to use to help heal the earth and all our relations (animals, plants, etc.). I love Mechi's style of writing, it is very engaging and easy to relate to. She has a good sense of humor. The book is also very touching and will help you to look at all living things around you in a different way.

This is a great book with meditation exercises to help us really connect with the essence of Mother Earth. It is only from an experience of Mother Earth as a living being not an inanimate object that we can begin to treat her better than we have in the last 200 years. This book helps us to make a shift in our feeling, which will result in a shift in our action effortlessly. It does not preach or lecture the reader, it is just a book that helps to open our hearts to the mother. As a result it does not point the finger of blame that can be so difficult for many to handle. If everyone read this book we would all take effective action to resolve the ecological crisis.

Mediocre photos, unsatisfying text

While this book was noble in its intent, the execution is sadly lacking. Some of the photographs are surely beautiful, but most are lackluster at best and downright unhelpful at worst. The entry for County Meath, Ireland? It's the Emerald Isle for heaven's sake, even a crappy day there can be beautiful, but the photo is so dark that you only see a narrow sliver of the countryside illuminated (the rest of the two-page photo is an overcast sky and shadow). The thawing permafrost of Alaska? The text is on the previous page, so if I had just turned to the photo randomly, I literally wouldn't even know what I'm looking at. It's a grainy yellow image that could be anything from an oil spill to a closeup of a skin condition.

I was looking forward to the entry on the cedars of Lebanon, but the photo is the black silhouette of a single tree, and could have been taken in my backyard for all its detail. The entry for the Scandinavian tundra? A blurry two-page spread of an unidentifiable animal pulling someone across the snow (it's either a sled dog or a reindeer, I honestly can't tell).

It may sound like I'm being nitpicky and cranky, but this is clearly intended to be a "coffee table" book (the text for each entry is very brief and unsatisfying), so I feel like the photos should be more powerful (and informative) than they are.

This book, with an ample supply of incredible, often double-truck photos, "100 Places" covers areas from the North Pole to the depths of the Congo Jungle that will certainly be affected in the coming years. Covering both the obvious (the barely above sea level, 1,200 tropical islands of the Maldives) to the obscure (the Vava'us in the Kingdom of Tonga), the book is a direct connection to dozens of rare places whose basic existance is threatened by the industrial age. While there are thousands of travel books, few, if any, highlight locations of pre-extinction the wat "100 Places" does. With a look and style resembling a National Geographic project, "100 Places" is a worthy addition to any travel bookshelf and one whose recommedations simply won't wait.

I agree: mediocre photos, unsatisfying text

I agree with basically the other reviewer's points about the poor choice in photos and text. Being a photographer, I was so excited about this book. More than half of the images were just plain bad choices from an editorial standpoint. Dark and not really showing the landscape at all. Perhaps moody and somber was the feeling they were going for. But it doesn't make me want to see most of these locations at all.

The text was, at points, just plain sensationalized. Really, Chicago is going to lose all it's tourism if the temp rises a few degrees? Really? The book should be called: 100 places I can scare you about loosing due to climate change. Some of the statistics of places are staggering (like Lake Chad's incredible decrease in size), yes. But others just seem like they are really stretching it (both to be chosen to be in the book and then trying to find something to write about them.

I don't normally write poor reviews of products. I give it an 5 stars for trying to raise awareness of the effects of climate change but 2 stars overall as a book. It's one book that is quickly going to disappear from my shelf.
