About the Author
John MacArthur is the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, president of the Master’s College and Seminary, and featured teacher with the Grace to You media ministry. In more than four decades of ministry, John has written dozens of bestselling books, including The MacArthur Study Bible, The Gospel According to Jesus, and Slave. He and his wife, Patricia, have four married children and fifteen grandchildren.

Great scripture study for all Christians

While my Bible study group has just started using this book, I have found immense joy in how it delves into the scriptures related to God's love for us and Christ's death. I have already learned so much and appreciate John MacArthur's method for teaching/study. He uses narrative interpretation, question and answer, "search and find", and matching of scripture verses to location. He has the reader "do the work" so that the Word becomes more ingrained into our hearts vs just telling the reader what he thinks. I thought I would regret doing this study in the summer vs in the season of Lent, but I am finding that anytime is a good time for learning about Christ's love for us!

About the Author
Sylvia LeDoux is of French, Native American, and German ancestry. It is from the Native American part of her ancestry that she inherited her lactose intolerance that gave impetus for her lifelong study of how the food we eat causes the diseases we get. She is certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist as a Histology Technician. Ms. LeDoux has extensive experience in Histology laboratory work at Texas Tech University, St. Mary's Hospital and West Texas Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. The book came to me in 3 to 4 days, and almost new condition. The book was very informational to me and my family, as we have similar background to the author, with many of the allergies. If you have allergy problems, lactose, wheat etc, and especially have North American Indian as part of your genealogy, it really helps in understanding your allergy, and avoiding foods that cause your allergy problems, and the body's response to foods when you have an allergy. Well worth reading!

One of the biggest secrets to a better life...

...and yes...I know how pretentious that may sound. But actually, it makes sense when you re-realize that the brain's health is obviously linked to the health of the rest of the organic machine that we know of as our human body; It's in no way seperate. We act as if 'the body' is that entity below our brainpan that is somehow seperate from 'us' when this is hardly the truth. When one takes care of their body through good healthy dietary choices (including excercise...Don't be fooled by the various late-night ads...There's no way to have it without at least some good excercise.), then the mind is sure to follow...A clearer body means a clearer line-of-sight.

Now...All that being said, I can honestly say that the knowledge Sylvia's book has to offer is nothing massively elaborate and includes NO addition of any sort of drug or gimmick...quite the opposite in fact. It has to do with the subtraction of a few elements in our diet that we have for so very long taken for granted as being normal for human health when in fact they most certainly are anything other than healthy and have served as the premature downfall of many of our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters...friends & ancestors. On the rare cases I've actually listened to my body, I could see that it was at least a couple of these dietary ingredients that was making me lethargic, unfocused & unmotivated. When I tried clearing my system again (but this time through Sylvia's tips), I saw that she was onto 'it'...She was and is onto something very important to the health/wealth of the human experience. The virtual pantheon of diseases we experience is ANYTHING but normal...at least it doesn't have to be.

...The world isn't flat, good people...You just have to give it a chance. :-)

YOU EAT SOMETHING and and almost immediately you have nasal drainage or your stomach is upset and you're lethargic the rest of the day. So what's up with this? Sylvia LeDoux has done us a big favor in writing Understanding our Epidemic, the results of her lifelong study of how the food we eat makes us sick. She takes highly complex medical information, coupled with brilliant illustrations and gives the average person a complete understanding of how the body uses the food we eat. Or, rather, how our body cannot use some foods we eat and we get sick! Ms. LeDoux gives us her personal experiences with food intolerances and thoroughly researched findings to explain how our digestive system is not equipped to handle the highly processed food we buy at grocery stores and eat in restaurants. The fact that 70% of our immune system is in our gastrointestinal system explains the importance of understanding that what we eat influences every cell in our body. With the epidemic rise in obesity, autoimmune diseases, asthma and cancer in our society, Ms. LeDoux demonstrates that it is imperative that we understand that what we eat can make us sick. In her words: "Being sick is not normal! A person can learn to listen to their body's signals, make adjustments to their diet and recover from illness"

About the Author
Roy has been a part of the automotive service industry for 40 years. He is a member of SAE International. As a technician, he is an ASE Certified Triple Master plus L-1, and was inducted into the ASIA Technicians¿ Hall of Fame in 1996. He is also a certified locksmith. He began his career as a mechanic in a small, family-owned repair shop in Washington, D.C. In 1964, they did road service in the old-fashioned way, dispatching a mechanic in a jeep, not a tow truck, and getting most of the cars started on the roadside. Since then, Roy has worn many hats, including dealership service technician, assistant service manager, road tester, quality control specialist, automotive instructor and program head at a community college. He is co-author of The 300,000 Mile Car, published by Thomson Delmar Learning.

For the last 14 years, Roy has worked in Automotive Services at AAA¿s National Offices, and has continued to change hats. Today, he is Manager of Technical Training and Research, responsible for the towing manual, lockout manual, and training for emergency road service providers, as well as managing the onsite AAA Car Care Plus Center, which provides auto repairs and maintenance for AAA National Office employees.

Used for Bible Study Group

I purchased multiple copies of this book for use in a Bible Study Group. The group found the book helpful in focusing them on the material being studied, with questions that often opened up discussion about what was happening and what that means for us today. I did find other questions too schoolbookish, straight factual answers which did not increase our understanding of the intent of the stories, though they did make us take a second look at what was actually happening in the stories.

I did not realize how uncertain the places of the Exodus really are. I think that modern evidence is building that Mt. Sinai is probably is Saudi Arabia rather than on the Sinai Peninsula.

Fantastic Cookbook

I didn't think I was able to easily cook Lebanese food but this book made it possible. I bought several Lebanese and Mediterranean cookbooks but they were hard to follow and they made simple dishes look very complicated. After buying this book I was able to impress all my friends and family with authentic, tasty and easy to make dishes. I recommend this book for anyone trying to cook delightfully tasting Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes without all the hassle.

Lebanease Cuisine - I love it !

As a 33 year old Lebanese guy living in the US, this book has been the perfect gift. I have been using it regulary and have been experimenting with many recipes. The recipes are easy to follow and the results are soo tasty. I have been impressing myself as well as my friends, especially since the only thing I previously knew how to prepare in the kitchen was a cheese sandwhich :)

I definitely recommend this book to all the Lebanese living abroad.

A Great Childrens' Book

This is an easy review - the book is simply great! If parents are willing to sit down with their children and read, especially starting before they are two years old, this book will help to spark the imagination of practically any child. The song couldn't make a better subject for a book. The story should help form the foundation for a strong moral and religious background. The illustrations are beautifully done and our twenty-two month old picks out things that we hadn't even noticed. I recommend the book to all parents and encourage them to read it nightly, taking the time to discuss what they see in the pictures. I sincerely hope the author has more projects in the works!

A Work of Art

I'm not one typically drawn into "art project" books. You know the type: tissue paper projects rendering things that vaguely resemble palm trees and the like. That having been said, I can't help but be captivated by Ashley Bryan's "All Things Bright And Beautiful", which to me is a total and welcome surprise.

Following the lyrics to the titular hymn, Bryan uses brilliant colored, hand scissored paper to compose multi-layered, symbolically engaging renditions of each line. Broad varieties of wildlife and people from every continent are beautifully represented in eye-popping color combinations. I've found myself on more than one occasion slowly flipping the pages, just allowing my eyes to wander about. With all the shapes and colors, this lovely book also doubles as a great I-spy-with-my-little-eye hunt with the kids.

The last two pages give a brief biography of Cecil Frances Alexander, who penned the lyrics to "All Things Bright And Beautiful", and also have a musical score for the hymn.

The illustrator's note on the copyright page is not only enlightening, it's endearing: "The scissors shown on the endpapers [see: photocopied scissors inside covers] are the scissors that my mother used in sewing and embroidery and that I, in turn, used in cutting the colored papers for ALL of the collage compositions in this book." Wow. What a neat tribute to Bryan's mother that in turn gives us a further connection to the rather simple utensils used to create this remarkable work of art.

It's a book that can be a quick read (perfect for little bottoms that have trouble sitting still), but also can be easily lingered over. It's a great combination that makes this artful book a winner.

I WANTED TO BUY A RECORDABLE NON HOLIDAY THEME BOOK FOR MY NEICE. THIS BOOK WAS UNDER THAT CATAGORY, HOWEVER WHEN I RECEIVED THE BOOK IT WAS JUST A STORY BOOK WITH A SONG TO BE SUNG OR PLAYED IN THE BACK.
I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED BECAUSE I WANTED MY MOTHER TO RECORD THIS FOR HER GRANDDAUGHTER.

ALL IN ALL I DID NOT GET WHAT I EXPECTED, BUT I STILL LOVE THE BOOK AND THE THEME. I KNOW MY NEICE WILL ENJOY AS WELL.
