A Very Informative Book

Hank Luisetti was my father and this book told me things that I did not know about his basketball playing days. I knew he made an impact on the game because he was the first player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (would be a good Jeopardy question) but I did not know his history. Obviously, I enjoyed this book very much.

Great basketball book

Pallette has written a smashing, detailed, well written slamdunk of a book about an almost forgotten giant of basketball. The young Italian kid from San Francisco rose to the heights as the finest player of his generation. The book explains in fascinating detail his rise to fame, and includes amazing play by play accounts of many of the games, pieced together from many newspaper accounts at the time. Besides being a brilliant piece of research, it is a fast paced book to read. If you love basketball, you will love this book.

As someone who is new to practicing Judaism, this book was very helpful to me in explaining the basics about Jewish holidays and Shabbat. It is very easy to read and understand. It made it very accessible to me to start having my own traditions practiced in my home, and I've enjoyed the results very much!

long but worth it!

Yes it is a long book with a slow build up to a very gruesome grizzly climax but it is worth the read! I personally like a book that is slow to unwind because that way I can get a feel for the characters and empathise with them more, which is what happened here, and which makes it more of a shock at the end of the book when you cant help thinking that this author is totally ruthless with his characters - there is no happy ending where everything is all tied up nicely with the main characters all smiling at each other at the end of the ordeal, in this book everyone suffers. Read it and enjoy!

When I read this book I was not sure what I was really going to be reading. I have to say this Novel is an Absolute Page Turner!!! I can't wait to read his next publishing! I would absolutely recomend this book to anyone who like mistery and horror.

About the Author
Janet Romich, a longtime veterinarian, teaches a variety of science-based courses at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wis., where she was honored with the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2004 for use of technology in the classroom, advisory and professional activities, publication list, and fundraising efforts. She is also an IACUC member for a hospital research facility and received the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician Association's Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2007 for her contributions to the education of veterinary technician students and in promoting the use of veterinary technicians in the workplace. Dr. Romich is also the author of FUNDAMENTALS OF PHARMACOLOGY FOR VETERINARY TECHNICIANS, 2e and UNDERSTANDING ZOONOTIC DISEASES as well as a co-author on DELMAR'S VETERINARY TECHNICIAN DICTIONARY. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She remains active in veterinary practice through her relief practice, where she works in both small- and mixed-animal practices.

Good Introductory Textbook

My only issue with this textbook is the end-of-chapter questions and case studies. I like to use this to check my knowledge; however, there are no answers either in the textbook or available online to check your personal answers against.

easy to follow

This book is a real eye-opener when it comes to the actual source of the psoriasis. I loved the way the author broken the shopping list per different store, and what I should keep in the fridge, pantry, office, purse, etc. This book has easy guidelines to follow, and it does not contain some complex recipes. So I can be creative, and I cook certain foods the way my husband and two children that are picky eaters could and would eat.

I have started my diet only 20 days ago. The most difficult thing about is to find all these products in the store first time around. But once you get a hang of it, it is ok. So far, I have started experiencing the outcomes as the author described in the book. I will try to follow it for a while, I hope it works!

Healing your Skin with an Alkaline diet

I bought this as a follow up the the Pagano book, Natural alternative to healiing psoraisis. The Pagano book got me on the diet and this book was an excellent accompanyment. I took it with me when I went into the Health food stores and it gave me many many more things to eat that I would not have bought. It was great. It broke down all situations and what to order, purchase, choose to maintain the diet. It was very helpful.

Aaron Ross is part of the Computer Animation and Multimedia Faculty at the Art Institute of California at San Francisco. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and his Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, School of Film/Video. A member of the Association for Computing Machinery, Mr. Ross has exhibited video and computer graphic works at festivals and arts venues, including SIGGRAPH, Prix Arts Electronica, International Symposium on Electronic Art, Berlin Interfilm, San Francisco Exploratorium, and San Francisco Cinematheque. His computer animations have been screened on many major networks, including ABC, NBC, CNN, and Fox News,

Harnessing 3ds max 8 - A Book I've Been Waiting For

3ds max is a huge program offering literally thousands of different commands. What is doesn't have is something that says "Start Here." This is the first thing I found out when I was assigned to a project which was going to use 3ds max, and I had to learn it on-the job. I didn't have the option of returning to a university or even the time to wait for the next term to start, so I used the "read everything available" learning method. The book Harnessing 3ds max 5 ended up being the one that helped the most.

Three years later, in working with others who need to jump right onto using the program, I have still been using my (now rather shredded) copy of Harnessing 3ds max 5. I have been hoping for a revised edition which would bring it up to date while keeping the best features of the old book. Harnessing 3ds max 8 does exactly that.

This book breaks down the basic 3ds max functions into small enough bites that they can be understood and practiced individually. Then it's possible to experiment with them to see how else they can be used. The techniques were easy to recall and use later after doing this.

There is basic information on computer graphics and the general concepts of 3D modeling and rendering. Just enough to get you thinking with how 3ds max works, but not so much that it becomes a theory study which forgets to teach how to do it.

It includes a disc with short videos that visually explain the most essential points (I haven't found another book that has anything like this.)

Harnessing 3ds max is organized in 3 "loops". First an introduction that ends with a simple modeling and rendering exercise that gives hands-on experience right away. Then a more thorough presentation of the basic functions with easy to understand examples and exercises. Finally more advanced modeling and rendering features are presented. Each section builds on the one before and by the end the new user has a good grasp of 3ds max basics. With the fundamentals well learned you are ready to take on more specialized books and instruction. And, more importantly, to start creating with 3ds max (that's when the real learning starts anyway!)

A welcome update to the series

This edition is an excellent revision of the previous versions. I recently acquired this one to replace my aging Harnessing Max 5. Although there are some nice color plates in the back, the real reason to buy this book is for the high quality exercises. While other books give you standard "follow-the-bouncing-ball" examples, the authors here give a thorough explanation of exactly why you are doing each step as you go. This provides a much deeper understanding of both the tool and the processes. The value of this approach simply cannot be understated. Even though this book isn't necessarily targeted for advanced users, I still regularly refer back to Harnessing myself to review certain topics when I get a bit rusty in spots. Max is a massive tool, and this book makes understanding it manageable.

3ds Max 5 + 3

I had hoped to use this text in the Intro to 3D course I teach. Unfortunately,Harnessing 3DS MAX 8 turns out to be an over-priced, unimaginative re-edition of the author's previous tome: Harnessing 3ds Max 8.

Yes, it's true that the Max 8 edition has been somewhat updated to include several features specific to Max 8. However, this edition, like the last, lacks anything close to the level of depth that I would expect from an 800+ page text.

As an advanced modeler myself, I am probably most critical of the modeling and anatomy demonstrated in the tutorials. The face modeling and box modeling tutorials are amateurish and even naive. As an introductory-to-intermediate level text, one would expect that the tutorials would demonstrate a considerable level of expertise and "best practice" methods.

The fact that many of the readers of this book would be beginners is certainly no excuse for using artless samples and methods.

I realize that putting together a comprehensive text on 3ds max must be a daunting task. However, there is no excuse for simply re-publishing an overly simple and amateurish text like Harnessing 3DS max 8. University Profs. like me are getting tired of having to choose from so many poorly considered and lazy re-publications. By contrast, Maya texts do not seem to suffer from such amateurism. Possibly it is because many of the people who learned Maya were trained in professional institutions, and not self-taught as are so many 3ds Max text authors it seems. Maybe it is also because Maya texts are still largely authored by Alias Wavefront and therefore have a fairly professional set of standards that they adhere to.

Having said all this, I will say that the most basic information in Harnessing 3DS MAX 8 is sound and logically ordered. There is just too little information to justify the cost.

It's amazing to me that a company of the stature of Kaplan would have so many errors in a book intended to train for a test. It's hard to have confidence in their services.

Here are some of the numerous errors I found in the math section of this book.
The math section is a pathetic study guide. The errors are so numerous, that it's hard to know when it's right. See below - and this is only as far as I got. I will return this poor "study guide" and request my money back.

I contacted Kaplan; they said they would have an errata sheet posted early Sept 2008; it's now mid-Sept, and no errata sheet is posted.

I'll try another publisher.

Page 272, prob 10, error in first line; fist x-intercept missing (3/2)
Page 279, prob 6; 8x-2 should be 8x-3
Page 289, prob 4; units are meters in the sketch and inches in answers
Page 322, prob 7; missing "+" sign in equation
Page 323, prob 4; indicates use of calculator, but GMAT instructions say no calculators are allowed

Page 326, prob 6; solution includes "y" in solution; there is no "y"
Page 328, prob 10; equation has both plus and minus signs, (x-+5)

Page 285, 30-60-90 example shows 1:1:sqrt2; should be 1:2:sqrt3
Page 299, prob 2; Greek letter for pi is "p" in answer E; confusing
Page 300, prob 3; Greek letter for pi is called "p"; confusing
Page 300, prob 4; Greek letter for pi is called "p"; confusing
Page 301, prob 5; missing info: need to tell me that A in on line OB
Page 305, prob 5; angle CDE and DEC are both 45 deg, but not drawn equal

Better math editor needed

There are excessive math errors in the book. Several times they use the same figure (ex. Triangle) with the exact same measures (congruent triangles) to show how the two figures are different. How can they be different when the 3 sides and the 3 angles are identical? One time they say find the "equation with and -5". Nothing between the two words.

They tend to introduce new concepts in the practice problems and then don't explain them in the answer explanations.

The english portion was OK.

Fine if you don't really want to get into that Business program of your dreams

Ugh, Worst. Study guide. Ever. Here's why...

I've started studying on the Math portion of the book first because I know it'll take me longer to retain it, but there are so many errors in the study guide that it just confuses me and makes me second guess myself. NOT what you want in your study manual!!

So far, I've been through about 40 pages of the math section and have discovered 9 errors. Sometimes it may be them leaving out pertinent information for a question, sometimes the wrong symbol is used (ie: 1/2 x 30(x=32)=870 ,no, really that's straight from page 339), Sometimes the answers won't match the question because the problem was typed out incorrectly, and I'm no math whiz, but I'm pretty sure that they have a wrong answer in the answers section.

Another annoyance is that in their practice questions, they'll ask questions to skills that they've not yet covered in the review. But most of the time they just assume that you still remember formulas from your High school days and (something they could have easily listed in the section) and then they place questions on it in the practice areas. Well, how the smurf are you supposed to figure out that a trapezoids formula for area is 1/2 x height(base1 + base2) if they don't tell you? It makes for a very frustrating study experience.

My intention is to write Kaplan about this, because it was a huge waste of money (especially at full retail, since I didn't buy here on Amazon) and has been a waste of time. How can you trust them to sucessfully take you through the review you need for such a test, if they can't even get simple things like + and = signs in the right places?
