Historical Apologetics

This is an excellent resource by Josh McDowell that deals with the historical evidences for Christianity. McDowell covers evidence for the Old and New Testaments, archaeology, historical evidence for Jesus Christ (outside of the Bible), as well as many great quotations from both Christian and secular authorities. McDowell does a fine job of arranging the content in a clear and coherent manner. The material is arranged in a point by point format, and there is also several charts. I think this will be a valuable resource for your library. Highly recommended.

Evidence for Christianity

This work (compendium, really) was not intended to be read straight through. It was intended to bring together the basics of the evidence for the Christian faith. All of the historical evidence cannot be contained in one book, and the author does not try. He instead lays out a logical outline that helps the reader find what he's looking for, and gives easily-understood information and excellent citations of the top scholars, secular and Christian, in that particular area.

Although there is enough material for a lifetime of discussion and argument in this book, the reader is warned by McDowell that the evidence he has pulled together is not the primary focus. That focus should not be on winning arguments by throwing out evidence, but on the valid questions people bring to the table in their spiritual journey, and how the evidence can help address those questions. For the seeker, then, this book represents a treasure trove of sources to investigate on one's own or with a friend.

For the Christian layman, if approached as intended, this book will be a wonderful resource for answering specific questions concerning historical evidences for the Bible and Christianity. It is not intended to teach one how to debate non-Christians. It will be very helpful, though, in addressing the distressing lack of historical knowledge about Christianity so prevalent in our churches and society at large today.

I find this book continually open on my desk as I prepare papers, lessons for Sunday School, or Bible study. The beauty of this book is that I don't have to read several pages in order to jump into the author's stream of thought. This book should be on every pastor's and lay leader's bookshelf.

This book should be a basic part of everyone's personal library.

So many times we hear about skeptics of Christianity and/or the Christian rant and rave on YouTube-like sites and various discussion boards. Some skeptics have already made their mind up because they were hurt by someone in the past. Therefore arguing is therapeutic for such people. However if you are a person who desires honest answers and technical/detailed evidence, which goes beyond the noise of semantic bantering and false analogies typical of many "so-called" free thinkers, you will love this book. This book should be a basic part of everyone's personal library. So much powerful evidence to make even the most outspoken skeptics of Christianity into some of its most ardent defenders and become devoted followers of Christ. The exhaustive amount of archeological finds, historical accounts, and ancient cultural evidence presented by this book debunks a myriad of objections proliferated by the academic elites within our secular universities by presenting just raw evidence and facts. While bible skeptics invent allegations and devise speculations that were never supported by the archaeological evidence, this book methodically supplies real evidence and hard data that would hold up in a court room. If you once considered yourself a Christian but now have labeled yourself an atheist or agnostic because you thought Christianity was just a bunch of "made-up stories" and is not supported by any real evidence, you will be pleasantly surprised that it is those supporting facts and hard evidence presented by "Evidences for Christianity" that set Christianity apart from every world religion and the religion of atheism.

Those who claimed see the risen Christ and His ascension would not put their lives on the line if they actually knew it was not true. Those who analyze the vast amount of prophetical fulfillment wrought by Christ, and acknowledge the fact that He violated Hebrew culture and expectations of what their messiah should do by NOT SEEKING to conquer the Roman Empire, will find it difficult to convince even themselves that these JEWISH converts would have just "made up" the story about Jesus when even those who persecuted Christians not only verified Jesus' existence but even confirmed what those early Christians believed about Him and the sufferings they faced for those beliefs.

A VERY mixed bag; read carefully

Love this book; also, kinda hate this book, as it contains some very irreverent images that I find enormously offensive. We are talking about Jesus here...and Jesus is for us all, although we are not all for Him...so there are a million ways humanity has made Jesus over in art, to make a statement or to more resemble our own experience. This IS put together by Edward Lucie-Smith, and NOT by John Michael Talbot: there is ugly Jesus, gay Jesus and tattooed Jesus, and a female Jesus crucified, with both female anatomy and a beard. Also, some very special, reverent, and unusual images that I have never seen, even though I have studied international Christian art to some extent: modern painters whose work was unfamiliar, unusual Icons, ancient Ethiopian/coptic images; and more. Bottom line: not a coffee table book...at least, not at my house.

In her book, Mikie supplies the creative link between God's Word and God's creation. He, of course, is the Genius behind both the Word and the world, but she has supplied the creative link. Her photography of His world is wonderful, but when His Word is combined with her photography of His world, the result is an original work of art that blesses the soul.

About the Author
Lee Smith is a Registered Master Plumber and certified vocational math instructor. His many years of practical and teaching experience in the pipe trades includes domestic and industrial work in the areas of refrigeration and air conditioning, deep sea diving vehicles, and nuclear piping. In addition to several certificates in the trades, Mr. Smith has held Master Plumber credentials for forty years. He earned his A.A.in applied science and technology from Thomas A. Edison State College, and his B.A. and M.A. degrees in education from Temple University.

Michael A. Joyce is a Class 1 licensed plumbing contractor in North Carolina with thirty three years of plumbing experience in commercial, industrial, and residential installations and repairs. He has authored several plumbing books and teaches a variety of plumbing seminars and classes throughout the country, including classes for the United States Pentagon, New York City hospitals and Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) of NC. Currently the President of Joyce Company, Inc., Mr. Joyce is also the owner of the Plumbing Education Station at www.plumbingpro.org.

About the Author
Rebecca Cale Camhi, a native of West Virginia, earned a BA in English from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, and an MLS from SUNY at Buffalo, New York. She was a Fellow of the Western New York Writing Project, at Canisius College, also in Buffalo. This background was ideal preparation for her current professional work as a School Library Media Specialist, as well as her personal work writing poetry and fiction. Her first novel, Deepwater Mountain: A Novel of West Virginia, was published by McClain Printing in 2000. It was very well received, and is in the Appalachian Studies Bibliography for both West Virginia University and Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia. Some of her poems have been published in the US and in the UK, and one of them garnered third place in an international poetry contest. Several other poems have received editor’s choice awards, and were recorded on poetry CDs. In new novel Deadly Legacy, she combines her coal mining heritage with her interest in conspiracy theories surrounding the JFK assassination. She and her husband live in Buffalo, and have two grown children.

Life is no party for Bonnie Rollins of Kanawha Falls, West Virginia; an English teacher who has just buried her father, Tibb Rollins in the soggy mire of the Oak Hill, West Virginia Cemetery.

Tibb is dead and gone! After suffering many years of physical and emotional abuse from this man, Bonnie has finally laid him to rest; but not without many unanswered questions.

Thus begins a story of hate, love, and retribution through ninety four chapters of suspense and intrigue. Many questions have to be answered in those exciting chapters from this new thriller by Rebecca Cale Camhi. Where did Tibb get two million dollars to leave her? What does the safe deposit key fit? How can there be any truth to Tibb's outlandish confession that he was a ruthless assassin?

Camhi writes with extraordinary ability about people caught in emotional and physical crosswinds; desires they cannot satisfy and dreams they cannot erase. It's the kind of territory where you expect to find the same old melodrama from prior authors, but none of that is present due to the blazing speed of her brief chapters.

Throughout this breathless story, Camhi knows how to keep her story surging with fresh energy; desperate and impassioned, erotic and moving-absolutely spellbinding.

The author wastes no time in leading you from chapter to chapter. Most chapters are no more than two or three pages at most. Each chapter reads like a compressed novel; a form that grabbed my interest very quickly.

If you have an interest in the JFK conspiracy theories, you will love Camhi's striking techniques of brief chapters, powerful characters and extraordinary settings and emotions.

Deadly Legacy

What a great story! I read alot of mystery and historical fiction and I couldn't put the book down. It was fast paced, had a believable plot and great characters. Tibb Rollins lays dying in his hospital bed. Delirious he grabs the nurse's arm and states that he killed the bastard. The bastard he is referring to is JFK. Tibb is a known racist, wife beater, child abuser and an expert marksman. He has kept his dark secret for over forty years. His deathbed rantings will have drastic ramifications for his daughter Bonnie Rollins. Someone has been watching him for over forty years. Now it's time to silence the daughter.

I am a great fan of mysteries and loved this one based on the assassination of JFK. Rebecca Camhi has crafted a fast paced and well researched book with well drawn characters and a satisfying conclusion. The super short chapters keep the action moving along and make this story hard to put down.
FBI Special Agent, Tom Lee is trying to keep Bonnie Rollins from being murdered. Although, they know why someone is trying to kill her, they don't know who. This novel suggests a believable solution for the real mystery of who shot JFK in Dallas so long ago. I look forward to Rebecca's next novel!
